I pull out the bag Xendrake had given me, slumping against the wooden part of the gate. After a short bit of digging, I pull out the meeting stone. The small green sphere is designed to link to an identical one somewhere else, I just hope Xendrake has it with him. As I'm casting the link spell, Ezeret swoops down next to me, "smoke." He says in his short spoken manner although I'm not sure if it's a question, a statement or a confirmation. Then I hear Xendrake's voice through the stone.
"What is it, lieutenant?" He says.
"Sir...well...there might be something of interest down here its smoke..." I could see it now slowly filling the northern side of the wall. "It's hard to tell where it's coming from, the wind you know but it's kinda worrying me, sir."
"Alright, a detachment's on its way to investigate... It's probably a rock slide or an avalanche." Then silence. I look up at Ezeret and then down the pass. The smoke is getting thicker, I'm sure that the men up

The military gives one many things, the primary being a deep hatred of snow. Unfortunately for me I am stationed at Takana in the border mountains and here snow is a regular occurrence. So I silently trudge across the wall again the musket, another thing I had grown to dislike, growing heavy in my quickly numbing hands. The wall I walk spans the width of a minor pass serving as one of the few "safe" ways over the mountains and across the border. There are similar walls and gate systems in all of the passes, they protect us from our hostile neighbor, Isthara. We, the Elkrains, are the only nation in the North Isles that have yet to be part of their so called empire, and they don't like that. I come to the next post tower on the wall, a brief break from the now driving snow. The guard who's there doesn't seem to care that I'm here and continues to shiver in the corner. I can't see his face through the pale green cl
