Perrault ran faster than he had in a long time, the stolen sack of Elkrian wheat tucked under his arm. He was a common thief, who made his living selling his "goods" to the unsuspecting, and now he had a sack of fresh grain to sell in Hapstown.
His merry thoughts were interrupted by more gunshots and the sound of a horse at a gallop possibly two. The lead pellets struck closer and closer to him. The final one of the volley buried itself in a tree I just in front of him, spraying him with dust and bark. The locals had gotten themselves some new security and now Perrault found himself minutes away from capture... Today was not as good a day as he would have thought. Now the trees became thicker as he moved north into the forest and dangerously close to New Sumre.

Saren stood, his feet still in the surf and looked out before the pristine white beach before him. The serene peace made him clutch his musket all the tighter. The frontier was dangerous if beautiful, everyone had heard stories of entire villages being wiped out by natives and disease, but that was the whole reason for his presence.
Saren had done simple jobs before, basic recon, patrols, even commanded a small force, but this was over and beyond anything he had previously accomplished. An entire colony was in his care, he was in command of the only Elkrain military force in the new world.
